(Option) Rethinking Simulation : SESAM 2026

SESAM 2026 in Lyon - Five contributions by Barbara Bertagni and Fernando Salvetti have been accepted

Simulation was once a place. A room. A moment in time.
You entered. You trained. You left. Now something else is emerging.

Not a place. A condition. Systems that observe how you think. Environments that change as you act. Conversations that do not follow scripts—but respond, adapt, challenge.

Learning is no longer delivered. It is constructed in interaction.
Performance is no longer evaluated. It is continuously shaped.
Simulation is no longer separate from reality. It becomes part of it.

We build spaces where decisions are formed under pressure, and communication reveals its consequences.

Because what matters is not only what people know, but:

  • How they decide
  • How they relate
  • How they act when it matters.

SESAM 2026 (June 17-19, 2026) will bring together a global community working at the frontier of healthcare simulation. Fernando Salvetti and Barbara Bertagni will be in Lyon, contributing to the dialogue on AI, immersive environments, and the future of human performance.

Five accepted contributions. One direction. Not only a better simulation. A different way of thinking. Beyond simulation as we know it.

  • Critical Conversations in Healthcare Simulation
  • The Hiker and the Expert
  • Neuroadaptive Simulation
  • The Coroner’s Inquest in England
  • Crash to Care

How we think, decide, and act when it matters? Systems that adapt to the learners. Conversations that shape decisions under pressure. Experiences where thinking, emotion, and action are inseparable.

We look forward to the conversations ahead.
